David, Giovanni
David, Giovanni , Italian tenor, son of Giacomo David; b. Naples, Sept. 15,1790; d. St. Petersburg, 1864. He studied with his father, making his debut in 1808 in Siena. He created the role of Narciso in Rossini’s //Turco in Italia at La Scala in Milan on Aug. 14,1814, as well as created other roles in Rossini operas. He sang in London in 1818 and 1831. In 1839 he quit the stage and later became manager of the St. Petersburg Opera.
